Bio
A Texas roadside attraction
Justin Derx only remembers Texas. He wasn't born here, because of the Army, but his first memories are from his grandparents house in the early morning hours. He would wake to the smell of cigarettes, bacon, and eggs. The first sounds of those mornings were always the incoming daily weather report.
His first album, an eclectic alt-folk offering titled Sourdough Sky, features the multi- instrumentalist singer- songwriter decorating his insightful song poems with intricate open tuned fingerstyle guitar, mandolin, upright bass, synth textures and beautiful effects, (vocals sung into a resonator cone!)
Derx takes time to appreciate the smallest details in his world, weaving intricate string work with deep baritone vocals. Derx finds a nice lyrical counterbalance between world-weary cynicism and open-eyed gratitude. It's an album made for a long trip home or an evening on the porch.
Sourdough Sky is streaming on all platforms and will be available on vinyl in late Summer 2025. Additionally, you can catch Justin performing his full catalog live throughout Austin and South Texas beginning in July 2025.
